Yob and De Astoreca champions in Costa Rica
In one of the best finals of the season, Leo Yob and Joaquín De Astoreca were crowned champions of the Costa Rica FPCup, coming back from a set down against Maxi Maldonado and Luciano Puppo (5/7 6/3 7/6).
In a nail-biting tiebreak in the third set, which drew admiration from the fans who gathered at the Puro Padel Aleste club, the second seeds in the tournament clinched victory after coming back from a set down.
Yob and De Astoreca, who had come from Nicaragua with bad feelings, managed to round off a great week in Costa Rica, reaching the final without losing a single set. They defeated Fallas-De la Vera in the first round, then Martino-Alonso in the quarter-finals and the Nicaraguan champions, Parra-Rivero, in the semi-finals.
Puppo and Maldonado had a more difficult time, needing three sets to defeat Gonzalo Sassano and Joaquín Saura in the semi-finals. After losing the first set 7-5, they took the second in a tiebreak and closed out the match 6-2 in the third.
It was a great week in Costa Rica, where we will return in December for the 2025 Final Masters. Our thanks go to Aragón Sport and the owners and staff of the Puro Padel Aleste club, who took on the responsibility of organising this great tournament at short notice.
The next FPCup event will be held from 16 to 19 October in Panama, before returning to El Salvador and Guatemala.
