Parra and Rivero champions in Nicaragua
In a spectacular final, Argentinians Balta Parra and Mauricio Rivero defeated top favourites Maxi Maldonado and Luciano Puppo 6/2 6/4 to be crowned champions of the FPCup in Nicaragua. It was a high-level tournament thanks to the great work of the Raqueteo club, which hosted an event on the circuit for the second consecutive year.
They were certainly not among the favourites for the title, even though they started as the fourth seeds in the tournament, but Parra and Rivero quietly made their way through the rounds, without dropping a single set, and thus reached Sunday's big match to face the top seeds.
On their way to the title, the champions eliminated Gabriel Jiménez and Mario Cuadra (6-0, 6-1) in the first round and then defeated Pablo Barrera and Carlos Avendaño by the same score.
In the semi-finals, they faced Spaniards Luis Oliver and Manuel Yuste, who had just eliminated the second-best pair, Yob-De Astoreca (6/3 7/6), in a thrilling match. But once again, in a great display, Parra and Rivero conceded only two games in each set to reach the final.
Following this great tournament in Managua, the next FPCup event will be this weekend in San José, Costa Rica, at the Puro Padel Aleste club, organised by Aragón Sports.
